COVID-19 UPDATE: Due to the current situation that we find ourselves in, I am currently offering telephone and online (Skype and Zoom) sessions. Now more than ever it seems is the time for us to look after our mental health and emotional wellbeing. Counselling therapy can be of great use and help in providing a safe and private space to talk about whatever we need too. Please contact me if you are interested or have any questions.
Maybe your life seems overwhelming at the moment? Are you anxious, depressed and generally not right in yourself? Bereavement, illness and loss of employment are highly stressful life events that can lead to feelings of helplessness and not coping. Perhaps an important relationship has become toxic or is breaking down, eroding confidence and self-esteem. For many of us, life is at times a major struggle, and often we cannot find the right words to communicate our inner pain. Counselling can help.
Renee is a Person-Centred trained counsellor and this means that she will listen to you with acceptance, empathy and understanding. Renee has the utmost respect for your unique reality and will work at your pace. She won’t approach you with a strategy or apply techniques in an attempt to fix you: rather Renee will support your personal exploration of what hurts and how you can heal. Talking with a trained therapist helps to create resilience and renew confidence in your ability and resources. Counselling can bring clarity, increase self-esteem and fosters new ways of being you. This, along with the relationship between therapist and client, brings healing.
Reaching out for help and support is an important first step and from Renee’s own experience she knows how important it is to find the right therapist. The first thing you would do with Renee is to organise an initial session that gives the opportunity to meet and talk about what brings you to therapy and to answer any questions or concerns you may have. Importantly, it is a chance to see if it feels right for the two of you to work together.

Ruth is a qualified counsellor with a quiet and calm presence who is dedicated to offering safe, confidential and consistent support to her clients. She is a fully insured member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and abide by their comprehensive ethical code.
Ruth offers a welcoming and non-judgemental space for you to focus on yourself and whatever may be causing you distress. This may be anxiety, fear, depression, loneliness, low self-esteem. You may be experiencing a transition of some kind or feeling overwhelmed. You may have experienced a trauma or a bereavement. You may have a nagging sense of unidentifiable unhappiness and malaise. Counselling can give you an opportunity to explore and reflect on these feelings. The experience of being heard and understood can provide some immediate relief.
As an Integrative counsellor Ruth has knowledge of a variety of psychological theories which enables Ruth to adapt her approach according to your individual needs. Ruth’s approach is underpinned by Carl Rogers’ core conditions of Empathy, Honesty, and Unconditional Acceptance. This means she will always honour your experience, she will always be honest with you and she will never judge you. Your work together may also include discussing your past, to discover how it is affecting your present; the use of creative methods, using pens and paper, playdough and small figures; inviting you to be aware of your bodily sensations; inviting you to express yourself in a new way. Working together at depth in this way we can find a way for you move forward.
Ruth offers an initial 50 minute assessment session at £20. This allows you and Ruth to get to know each other, to discuss what your requirements may be and why you have decided to seek counselling, and to decide if you and Ruth can work together. If you and Ruth decide to take your work forward Ruth offers 50 minute sessions at £45 per session. These will take place at the same time every week for as many weeks as you require.
