A little about Gail…
Gail has always had a passion for dance, learning ballet, tap and ballroom as a child (in Diss) and later enjoying contemporary, jazz and African dance. Gail led a samba dance group in Stroud, Glos, and has choreographed for amateur productions and pantos!
Gail decided to train part time as a Community Dance Leader with the Laban Guild, while living in Somerset in 1993-1995 in order to learn more and because I love to encourage people to dance! Leading youth dance groups in Somerset and Gloucestershire, Gail also taught an adult community class while living in Africa and ran after-school clubs for children while working as a primary teacher. Returning to Norfolk more recently, Gail taught creative dance based on picture books in schools as part of her work with Norfolk School Library Service. She has been teaching dance part time for over 20 years!
Gail enjoys finding inspiring music to dance to, especially music from around the world. She wants to make dancing fun and accessible; her classes are a safe space to enjoy moving, learn something new and dance with others. No prior experience needed.
Gail has been running classes for adults for 2 years at the Space. The sessions include a warm up, simple technique exercises, travelling, dancing together, a chance to create movements and a routine which is developed over the 6 week block. The class also enjoy occasional trips to see dance performances together.
In November Gail plans to start a class for kids and their parents/carers which will involve fun ways of dancing together and creating simple movements based on picture books etc. Adults will need to stay and are encouraged to join in the fun. Gail’s belief is that everyone can dance!
