What is a Mummy MOT®?

Pregnancy and childbirth are life-changing experiences. It’s important for all mums to take care of themselves both for their physical health and also their emotional well-being. Whether you gave birth 6 weeks or 6 years ago, it’s worth making time for a Mummy MOT.

The Mummy MOT System combines physiotherapy assessment with functional retraining. Pregnancy and childbirth cause postural changes, muscle imbalances and altered alignment and these can persist after birth. It is essential to correct and rebalance otherwise pain, prolapse, urinary incontinence or rectus diastasis (tummy gapping) can persist. Left untreated, these issues can lead to long term problems and difficulty in returning to daily functionally activities safely.

Mums need to bend, lift, squat, twist so come and learn how to do these activities safely and in ways that will help heal your body postnatally!

BOOK YOUR MUMMY MOT® TODAY!

What does a Mummy MOT® include?

  • 1 hour post-natal assessment with a Specialist Women’s Health Physiotherapist
  • An examination of pelvic floor muscles
  • An assessment of abdominal muscles and measurement of any separation (diastasis recti)
  • Screening for bladder, bowel and sexual dysfunction
  • Scar management
  • Written report of findings.
  • A bespoke rehabilitation exercise programme focused on your physical needs and fitness goals

Who needs a Mummy MOT®?

ALL WOMEN WHO HAVE GIVEN BIRTH! It’s recommended that mums have an initial check-up 6 weeks post-delivery, however it is still possible to treat women who have had babies’ many years ago – women who maybe did not realise they have a tummy gap (diastasis recti) that may be preventing them from regaining their core strength.

Nearly half of all women’s bodies do not recover without intervention

A comprehensive post-natal physiotherapy check of mum should be mandatory after childbirth (especially for an effective return to normal function and exercise). In France, post-natal physiotherapy assessment and treatment is already part of every new mother’s standard rehabilitation, but unfortunately this not in the case in the UK.

Why is the Mummy MOT® important?

Firstly, leaking urine when you cough, laugh or sneeze, is unpleasant and embarrassing for women. Diastasis recti (separation of abdominal muscles) can leave you with an unsightly ‘mummy tummy’, weak core, back and pelvic pain which can be debilitating, causing issues with sex, and can affect a woman’s body image and self-esteem.

So many women think it is normal to have problems after you have had a baby and assume it is the new state of motherhood because no one talks about it. THESE ISSUES ARE NOT THE PRICE OF MOTHERHOOD! Why shouldn’t women be able to do a star jump, have an active life and do exercise without worrying? It’s important that women take care of themselves and their bodies after the birth of their children – the Mummy MOT® helps mums make their health a priority- for once!

How successful is it?

The most amazing thing is that most of these debilitating conditions can be treated effectively, and can be improved or alleviated entirely by establishing the needs of each woman – it’s about receiving the right knowledge, getting the right treatment and doing the right exercises that will help you on the path to recovery.
