> Iyengar Yoga:

Yoga classes designed to immerse your mind, body and soul in deep activation/relaxation, and, enjoy the subtle, blissful alchemy from within.

The yoga of Iyengar, prolonged supported poses achieving effortless comfort ~ Sthira sukham asanam.

Restorative Iyengar Yoga was developed in the 1970's by BSK Iyengar who was a direct disciple of T. Krishnamacharya. Together with Pattabhi Jois (developed Ashtanga Yoga) were partly responsible to bringing modern yoga to the west. With its roots in traditional yoga schools Iyengar Yoga focuses on three aspects:

Alignment Correction ~ using props (if needed) and respecting the body's boundaries to achieve balance between body, mind and breath.

Sequencing ~ poses performed in a specific order to enable a safe progression of opening and balance of the physical & emotional body.

Timing ~ positions held for longer periods of time with support if necessary. Once effortless comfort is achieved during the pose it is possible to safely intensify and deepen the posture.

Classes will start with pranama (breath work & breathing techniques) and a gentle warm up. Moving through various poses, flows and sequences, the class will come to a close with a guided shavasana (rest/meditation).

Classes are designed to suit individuals at their own pace, with guided breath work and verbal or physical adjustments. No previous experience necessary just wear comfortable clothes and bring a bottle of water.

As part of each class, you will have use of the full range of specialist yoga equipment such as bolsters, blocks, props, belts and supports, meditation stools and inversion stools to deepen the impact of the positions and flows.

Yoga Alliance Certified practitioner with over 5 years teaching experience teaching this ancient, subtle and profound technique.
